The story of how The Ravens was born

It was 3am at an evening of prayer and fasting on the 14th August 1994 when I was drawn towards the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 17.

Here was a man obeying Gods command but in a precarious position of needing food and water. In the story God directs Elijah to a brook to drink and then commissioned the ravens to feed him.

Now me being me, questioned ‘Why ravens?’ In subsequent investigations I found that ravens are amongst the most intelligent of birds compared to that of dolphins and chimpanzees. They have shown they can solve problems, remember how people treated them, and plan for future events.

They are playful, creative, they can talk and sing, they eat anything. They are survivors, they accumulate, they don’t share!

Over the years in reflection about this I have recognised many of these raven traits are found in entrepreneurs, business people. As a young man this is the direction I wanted to inhabit, being in business. Naturally most entrepreneurs want to accumulate but when God commissions them they become distributors not just accumulators. They make provision and resources for the kingdom. They solve problems, they create, they share.

This is what I believe The Ravens as a community of entrepreneurs, business people can do. This is why I am committed to seeing this network become shapers, sharers, and story tellers. As people of faith let us soar together and play our part in serving our communities.
